How should I study for the ARE?

Start with a realistic study schedule, focus on NCARB’s exam objectives, and use a mix of study methods – not just reading. Active learning techniques like practice questions, teaching concepts out loud, and working through case studies consistently outperform passive studying.

What is the best ARE exam order?

Most candidates do best starting with the pro practice exams (PcM, PjM, CE) before moving to the technical exams (PA, PPD, PDD). The pro practice exams build foundational knowledge that helps with every other division. Check out our complete exam order guide for the full breakdown.

How long does it take to pass all six ARE exams?

Most candidates need 700 to 1,500 total study hours spread across all six exams. The timeline depends on how many hours per week you can commit. Candidates who study consistently – even just 5 to 10 hours per week – finish faster than those who cram in bursts.
